Infrastructure Improvements Coming to Bonita Springs

The Bonita Springs city council has approved a comprehensive infrastructure improvement plan that will address several key areas of need throughout the community.

The $12 million project includes:

  • Repaving of major thoroughfares including Main Street and Oak Avenue
  • Stormwater drainage improvements in flood-prone areas
  • Replacement of aging water and sewer lines in the downtown district
  • Installation of new LED streetlights for improved visibility and energy efficiency

"These improvements are long overdue," said the public works director. "Residents will see significant enhancements to their daily commutes and overall quality of life."

Work is scheduled to begin next month and continue through the end of the year. The city has promised to minimize disruptions to residents and businesses during construction.

Project Timeline

The infrastructure improvements will be implemented in phases to minimize disruption to daily life. Here's the current timeline:

  • Phase 1 (May-July): Downtown water and sewer line replacement
  • Phase 2 (June-August): Stormwater drainage improvements
  • Phase 3 (August-October): Road repaving
  • Phase 4 (September-November): Streetlight installation

Residents can expect to receive detailed notifications before work begins in their area, including information about any temporary road closures or service interruptions.

Funding Sources

The $12 million project is being funded through a combination of sources, including:

  • $5 million from the city's capital improvement fund
  • $4 million from a state infrastructure grant
  • $3 million from a federal transportation grant

"We've been strategic in seeking outside funding to maximize the impact while minimizing the burden on local taxpayers," said the city manager.
